GENEVA MISSION CELEBRATES UGANDA@62
The Permanent Representative of the Uganda Mission in Geneva, H.E Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka today hosted more than 200 guests at the WIPO building in celebration of the Uganda's Independence Anniversary. Guests included Ambassadors, UN agency heads, private sectors delegations, members of Swiss Mission to the UN and the diaspora. H.E treated the guests to a sumptuous Ugandan traditional cuisine; performances in cultural dances and products showcasing that included Uganda Waragi.
In his remarks, Ambassador Tibaleke reflected on Uganda's journey from 9 October 1962 to date, showcasing the progress that has been made since, marked by resilience and the pursuit of a brighter future. He further pointed to Uganda's active and responsible membership at the United Nations, hosting over 1.7m refugees, the 4th largest refugee host nation in the world, its role in global security and peace efforts.
As Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement and the G77 and China, Uganda has committed to multilateralism, equitable and sustainable global development.
He took occasion to remind Ugandans to dedicate themselves to the cause of the country and the people, and to stand united in order to make a difference now and the generations to come.
