Passports

 

Uganda travel documents may only be held by citizens of Uganda. They are processed and issued only by Government of Uganda through the Directorate of Immigration Control (DCIC) and at three Ugandan Missions abroad: Washington DC (United States of America), London (United Kingdom) and Pretoria (Republic of South Africa).

UGANDANS RETURNING HOME TO COME BACK ON OLD PASSPORTS

The Ministry of internal Affairs (Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control) wishes to inform all Ugandans living in the diaspora that after the phasing out of the Machine-Readable Passports (MRP) on 4th April, 2022, MRPs will only be used by citizens returning to Uganda. They will not be usable to travel to other countries.

 

Ordinary Passport

A passport serves as a travel document issued to Ugandan citizens for the purpose of traveling abroad. Applications are done online through the DCIC Passport Portal.

Required Documents - Ordinary:

  1. National ID or National Identification Number

  2. Recommendation Letter and Recommender National ID

  3. Documents supporting your profession (if applicable)

Required Documents - Minors:

  1. Birth Certificate

  2. Parents NID

  3. Parents Passports

  4. Letter of consent from either Parent

  5. If child is adopted, attach adoption order from High Court of Uganda

Steps for Application

  • Step 1: Go to the Passport Portal

  • Step 2: Accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.

  • Step 3: Answer simple security questions

  • Step 4: Complete the passport application form

  • Step 5: Print Passport Application Payment Advice Form.

  • Step 6: Make payment for the selected type of passport using the selected payment method in the selected bank.

  • Step 7: Schedule appointment for a date of your convenience using the scheduled appointment link on the home page.

  • Step 8: Print Passport Application Appointment Form.

  • Step 9: Report to the selected passport Centre with the passport appointment form with the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website, for enrollment.

 

Fees

  1. Ordinary Passports cost 250,000 UGX.

  2. Express Processing Fee an extra 150,000 UGX paid separately in a bank.

Diplomatic Passport

The diplomatic passport is issued to the following people:-

  1. The President and Members of the First Family

  2. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament

  3. The Chief Justice

  4. Government Ministers and their spouses

  5. The Head Public Service

  6. The Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda

  7. Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of State Universities

  8. Judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the High Court

  9. Permanent Secretaries

  10. Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of Permanent Commissions and

  11. Recognized Traditional or Cultural Leaders

  12. Foreign Service Officers and their spouses plus their children below the age of 18 staying with them abroad.

Renewal/Replacement Of Passport

Required Documents, steps and Fees required for Renewal or Replacement of Ugandan Passport.

Steps for Application

Requirements For RENEWAL OF UGANDAN PASSPORT

  1. National ID

  2. Present your old Passport.

  3. Recommendation letter from a Ugandan national of good understanding in society who knows your citizenship. The recommender should provide a copy of his/her National ID

  4. In the event you are making any changes, change of profession, names due to marital status, you will be required to attach the relevant legal proof of changes.

  5. If you have a profession or making changes in your profession, ensure that you attach a photocopy of your academic transcript or certificate

  6. The fee is UGX 250,000, Bank Charges exclusive for replacement of your Passport

  7. Express fee is an extra UGX 150,000, Bank Charges exclusive.

Requirements for CHANGE OF NAMES OR OTHER PARTICULARS

Required Documents:

  1. Present written explanation for change of names addressed to the Passport Control Officer.

  2. Attach Supportive documents i.e. deed poll, marriage, certificate, etc.

  3. Attach a copy of the National ID with the name clearly appearing

  4. The fee is UGX 250,000, Bank Charges exclusive for replacement of your Passport

  5. Express fee is an extra UGX 150,000, Bank Charges exclusive.

Lost/Damaged Passport

Required Documents, steps and Fees required for replacement of Lost/Damaged Passport.

Steps for Application

  • Step 1: Go to the Passport Portal

  • Step 3: Answer simple security questions

  • Step 4: Complete the passport application form

  • Step 5: Print Passport Application Payment Advice Form.

  • Step 8: Print Passport Application Appointment Form.

  • Step 9: Report to the selected passport Centre with the passport appointment form with the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website, for enrollment.

 

Requirements For LOST PASSPORT

  1. Own and detailed written explanation addressed to the Passport Control Officer explaining circumstances under which loss of Passport occurred.

  2. Complete Affidavit in lieu / Statutory Declaration of lost Passport.

  3. Police report confirming loss of Passport.

  4. Payment of 100,000 UGX fine for lost passport

  5. Express fee is an extra UGX 150,000, Bank Charges exclusive.

  6. Where copy of lost Passport is available please attach the same

Requirements for REPLACEMENT OF DAMAGED OR MUTILATED PASSPORT

Required Documents:

  1. Applicant should present to Passport Control Officer, written explanation for circumstances under which Passport was damaged / mutilated.

  2. Present damaged Passport.

  3. Payment of 100,000 UGX fine

  4. Express fee is an extra UGX 150,000, Bank Charges exclusive.

Dependant Pass

The dependant pass is granted to children (less than 18 years), spouse and other relatives of a foreign resident with proof of legal stay (student pass, work permit, certificate of residence) in Uganda.

It can also be issued to a foreign dependant of a Ugandan citizen and this can be a child, spouse or other relative

    5. Passport Copy (Bio data page of the dependant) with at least 6 months validity

    6. Immigration status of dependant in Uganda

Child

  1. Requirements

    1. Immigration status of dependant in Uganda

    2. Principal's Immigration Status

    3. Passport Copy (Bio data page of the dependant) with at least 6 months validity

    4. Birth certificate

    5. Cover letter/diplomatic note from principal

    6. Principal's Passport Copy

    7. Recent Passport-size Photograph

Other Relatives/Members Of The Household

  1. Requirements

    1. Principal's Work Permit / Status in Uganda

    2. Immigration status of dependant in Uganda

    3. Cover letter/diplomatic note from principal stating the relationship and reason for the dependant pass

    4. Proof of relationship where applicable

    5. Passport Copy (Bio data page of the dependant) with at least 6 month’s validity

    6. Recent Passport-size Photograph

Fees

Child: USD 200
Spouse: USD 350
Other relatives: USD 1000

  1. Visa Fees are non-refundable and all payments are subject to a bank charge.

  2. Language; all documents attached should be in English.

Steps For Application

  • Step 1: Log into the Immigration Portal and select start new application

  • Step 2: Accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.

  • Step 3: Select the visa or permit type, category and sub category

  • Step 4: Complete the application form

  • Step 5: Upload the required documents; a six-digit application ID eg. (234790123) is automatically generated as the reference number

  • Step 6: Make payment for applications that require prepayment.

  • Step 7: Upon approval, for application that don’t require top up payment, an approval letter will be generated and emailed to the applicant on the home page

  • Step 8: Upon approval, make a top up payment for applications that require a top up payment. After payment an approval letter is generated and emailed to the client

  • Step 9: Report to the immigration office/ border for biometric capture with all documents uploaded, payment receipts, approval letter and passport
