The Deputy Permanent Representative, Amb Arthur Kafeero today delivered a statement on the human rights situation in Palestine on behalf of Uganda Delegation. He re-echoed the urgent need for a ceasefire and increase in humanitarian aid to the Gaza and the people of Palestine.

He delivered another statement on behalf of the NAM during the 56th Session of the HRC  Interactive Dialogue on the situation of human rights in the occupied territory of the state of Palestine.
 

The Permanent Representative of the Uganda Embassy and Permanent Mission in Geneva today received the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Odongo Jeje at the Permanent Mission. The Minister is in Geneva to attend a series of meetings at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and at the World Intellectual Property (WIPO). 

On the side lines of the recent engagements at the UCTAD and WIPO, Hon Odongo Jeje, Minister for Foreign Affairs had a moment to engage with a section of the diaspora at the Permanent Mission.

The Minister took note of the role of diaspora in national development, emphasizing individual investments and remittances that has increased by more than 13% from 2023, overall contributing up to 3% of GDP. He walked the diaspora through a series of reforms government is undertaking in conjunction with agencies like URA, UIA in providing an enabling environment for diaspora investment.

The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon Betty Amongi Ochom yesterday delivered a double statement at the ongoing ILO  112th Session of the ILO. On the behalf of NAM, Hon Amongi  called for an immediate ceasefire and end to war in order to avert the plight of the Palestinian people, enduring hard conditions under the Israel led offensive.

On the occasion of the World Summit on the information society, The WSIS +20 Forum High Level Event, 2024 held on 27th May 2024, the ITU awarded NITA-UG the digital Design Special Price 2024. Uganda stood out as a prime example of excellence in digital transformation. It showcases a success in transforming a service that enables digital authentication, electronic signature and document sealing setting a high standard in digital government services globally.

Hon Ruth Achen, Minister of Health, today met with a section of the Diaspora in Switzerland, on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly. The Minister thanked the members and commended them for their commitments and contributions, not just to their work at the International Organisations, but took note of their contributions to the national development of their home country through the various initiatives in investment. She underscored the need for patriotism and unity as a precursor to development.

Uganda Delegation led by Hon. Hillary Onek - Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees met with High Commissioner Filippo Grandi  to discuss and enhance the advocacy for support for the Uganda refugee response.  Uganda currently hosts 1.6 Million Refugees and is the largest host in Africa.

25th SESSION OF THE INTER WORKING GROUP ON THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT

Today 13th May 2024, Uganda in her capacity as Chair NAM nominated Amb. Zamir Akram as the Chair Rapporteur of the Inter Working Group on the Right to Development .

The 25th Session is being held in Geneva from 13-17 May.

The Permanent Representative, Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka today hosted the Director General of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCIG) to a consequential discussion on strengthening  cooperation and ties with the Geneva based Chamber.

Ambassador Arthur Kafeero, Deputy Permanent Representative today tabled a Resolution on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement. The Resolution is sponsored by the 120 Member States of the NAM and co-sponsored by the Russian Federation and the State of Palestine.
