PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION TO IPU PAYS VISIT TO THE MISSION
The 148th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, Geneva from 21-27 March 2024
The visiting delegation of members from the Parliament of Uganda to the IPU yesterday paid a courtesy call to the Ugandan Mission at Geneva. Ambassador Marcel R. Tibaleka received the delegation and were later briefed on issues of mutual concern. The head of the delegation together with his team were appreciative of the work of the Mission especially post NAM. Issues about the Missions role around the bilateral and multilateral engagements was also highlighted in the discussions.
The Assembly will provide an opportunity for high-level parliamentary delegations to meet, exchange perspectives, and identify avenues for parliamentary action to address the pressing issues facing the world today.
The theme for the General Debate of the Assembly is Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Peace and Understanding and will result in the adoption of a political Declaration.
In addition to the General Debate and the sessions of the Standing Committees which will be preparing resolutions for adoption at the Assembly, all IPU statutory bodies will meet - including the Governing Council, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, the Committee on Middle East Questions, the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, and the Forum of Young MPs.
There will also be a High-level meeting on the crisis of Multilateralism: Root causes and possible solutions, as well as several thematic panels and workshops on issues that are also high on the UN agenda.
