What Does The World Health Organization Do? - The New York Times"Founded in 1948, WHO is the United Nations agency that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY 2024

The Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 27 May – 1 June 2024. The theme of this year’s Health Assembly is: All for Health, Health for All.

During the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly, a series of strategic roundtables will be held. During these sessions, WHA delegates, partner agencies, representatives of civil society and WHO experts will discuss current and future priorities for public health issues of global importance.

The Thirteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 13) defines WHO’s strategy for the five-year period, 2019-2023. It focuses on triple billion targets to achieve measurable impacts on people’s health at the country level.

The triple billion targets are to ensure by 2023:

  • One billion more people are benefiting from universal health coverage
  • One billion more people are better protected from health emergencies
  • One billion more people are enjoying better health and well-being

Measurable impact is at the heart of WHO’s mission to transform the future of public health
