UGANDA PARTICIPATES IN THE 72ND SESSION OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S PROGRAMME
The 72nd Session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme took place from 04th to 08th October 2021 at the Palais. Uganda was represented by Hon. Eng. Obaloker Onek Hilary, Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Mr Douglas Asiimwe, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Refugees in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The Hon. Minister in his remarks during the general debate among others stressed Uganda’s progressive refugee policy and the criticality of the UNHCR to lend itself to national efforts to obtain lifesaving vaccines for low-income refugee host communities like Uganda. He also highlighted the innovativeness around the refugee response in the area of environmental protection including the use of alternative energy sources and applauded IGAD efforts in the South Sudan situation.
The Executive Committee at the 72nd Session also considered reports on the work of the Standing committee, reports relating to programme and administrative oversight and evaluation as well as the programme budget for 2022.
